The annual festival to drink the remainder of last year’s beer before making more is upon us! Of course we no longer have the same issue that the Germans had with their beer before there was refridgeration but we won’t turn down an opportunity to dance, sing, eat good food and drink good beer.
The 2012 Bend Oktoberfest will be held this weekend, September 21st and 22nd, in Downtown Bend on Oregon Avenue. This year marks the 8th anniversary of the Downtown Bend Business Association hosting the event. Friday evening activities are for those 21 and older. Kegs will be tapped at 5 pm. Saturday festivities start at noon and are open to all ages until 6 pm. The highlight of the afternoon’s events is the weiner dog races to benefit the Central Oregon Humane Society. Here is a video of the 2009 races.
Of course the most important part of any Oktoberfest is the beer and Bend is anything but short of good local breweries. This year 10 Barrel Brewing, Bend Brewing Company, Deschutes Brewery and Phat Matt’s Brewing Company will be providing the suds.
This event is free to attend so put on your lederhosen and get ready to polka!
